Since its founding 15 years ago, Der Greif has been partnering with brands and organisations that share the same values to create mutually beneficial partnerships. We are happy to collaborate with our new main online partner MPB, the largest global platform to buy, sell and trade used photo and video kit.
Our monthly online exhibition Guest Room started in January 2015, and since then we’ve been working hard to invite a broad range of personalities within the field of contemporary photography and visual culture, from gallerists to editors and curators. We launched this format for three reasons: Firstly, in order to make sure that we can offer a wide variety of perspectives on the Der Greif principle of de- and recontextualizing images, and secondly, as an interesting and low-barrier approach to help artists get their work in front of people in the industry who might be interested in working with them. Thirdly, to simply create an additional more in-depth researchable database displaying our community. In relation to our 15th anniversary, we are very happy to announce the introduction of our Guest Room Scholarship, sponsored by MPB: an artist stipend of 1.000 € to one of the selected artists of each upcoming Guest Room. The first stipend will be nominated by David Campany, curator at large for the International Center of Photography in New York for his Guest Room themed The “Meanwhile” in collaboration with Taous Dahmani.
Every artist selected by our guest curators continues to get the chance to be chosen for our weekly Artist Features, showing the image published by Der Greif in the original context of the series. Simultaneously to the Feature, the artist is given a platform in which to blog about contemporary photography in our Artist Blog. On top of creating exposure, every featured artist is provided an artist honorarium from now on. For a chance to receive a Guest Room Scholarship apply now to our running open call Guest Room: Bindi Vora until April 20. The theme for this edition of Guest Room is "A picture is worth a thousand words but maybe it only needs one."
“We are passionate about visual storytelling and making it accessible for everyone. We are proud to promote sustainability, diversity and inclusion in everything we do. Circularity is at the centre of MPB. We buy directly from visual storytellers and evaluate all items before reselling MPB-approved kit. We’ve served over 625,000 visual storytellers all time while recirculating more than 400,000 products annually – all of which come with at least a six-month warranty after being carefully inspected by our product specialists. We’re thrilled to support Der Greif and their mission to bring visibility to a diverse range of visual storytellers.” - MPB
