As Big As The Sky: Mom’s Birthday

On the night of mom's birthday. I was visiting my brother and his family after getting the courage to ask if he could help me take a photo. My brother complied and posed for a shot in which he was holding an archived photo of mom and dad when they were younger. As we were preparing to take it, my niece walked in and excitedly asked what we were doing. I told her we were taking a family photo, and instantly she wanted to join. After watching how my brother was posing for the photo, she started mimicking her dad by cupping her hands. Surprised at her curiosity and desire to emulate her dad, I gave her the family photo and took the shot.

Seth Adam Cook

Seth Adam Cook is an artist from the Bayou Teche region of south-central Louisiana. He utilizes the swamps and marshes of his home as a point of departure for his versatile studio practice. Cook holds a B.F.A. in studio art from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and an M.F.A. in photography from Indiana University, Bloomington. His work has been showcased nationally and internationally, and he is currently a Lecturer in Photography at Georgia College and State University.
