Diana Akoto-Yip grew up in various german cities. In 2007, she graduated in communication design at the Folkwang university in Essen. Her main focus was on photography and editorial design, but early on she showed a tendency towards interdisciplinary performances and installations. Besides working as a fashion photographer, she joined the class for media design at the Munich Academy of Arts.
