"I can't wait" series

Hamburg 2019-2022

I am an impatient person. I need to be productive all the time.

In lockdown, I set out to stage small, simple still lifes in my studio.

A kind of "ready-made." I only ever took a maximum of 10 - 15 minutes for each picture.

I staged things that were lying around in the studio.

Or I just photographed things while walking the dog, which is what I usually do anyway.

That's not "street photography" - I call it "I am just looking".

The connections are always important to me. What does one do with the other? How do different ingredients combine? A + B = ?

The interplay of different elements is what makes it so appealing.

I am curious and excited about how the series will continue.

And I'm grateful that Der Greif is featuring my work.

Kai-Uwe Gundlach

Kai-Uwe Gundlach (born 1966) grew up in northern Germany.

When he is not traveling the world, he works on freelance projects in his Hamburg studio. He works successfully as a commercial photographer as well as a freelance artistic photographer. His pictures are very complex but always have a little sense of humor, and a little idea. Sometimes they are arrangements or simple collages or just snapshots. He likes to photograph people from his environment. Often his works arise spontaneously.

He does not follow a real plan. He gets involved with his environment, observes a lot, and creates out of a gut feeling.
