Fiona Rogers

Fiona Rogers is teaming up with Max Houghton, Course Leader for MA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography and a Senior Lecturer in Photography at London College of Communication in choosing the theme for this installment. Max Houghton has provided the following quote from “Mrs Dalloway” by Virginia Woolf.

‘She sliced like a knife through everything; at the same time she was outside, looking on. She had a perpetual sense, as she watched the taxi cabs, of being out, out, far out to sea and alone; she always had the feeling that it was very, very dangerous to live even one day.’

Fiona Rogers

Fiona Rogers is the Chief Operating Officer of Magnum Photos, responsible for managing the operations of the agency and designing and implementing strategies with the CEO. She is also the founder of Firecracker, a platform supporting female photographers, and recently authored a book published by Thames & Hudson; Firecrackers: Female Photographers Now, celebrating contemporary women practitioners. She has participated as a judge for several notable competitions, including, the Mack First Book Award and the Getty Images Grant for Editorial Photography.

Max Houghton

Max Houghton is the Course Leader for MA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography (full-time) at London College of Communication. Max is a writer, editor and curator working with the photographic image as it intersects with politics, law and human rights. Her writing appears in publications by The Photographers’ Gallery and The Barbican, as well as in the international arts press, including Foam, 1000 Words, Photoworks and Granta. She is co-author, with Fiona Rogers, of Firecrackers: Female Photographers Now (Thames and Hudson 2017).
