On October 24, we proudly unveiled Der Greif Circle, our new sponsorship program designed to foster a dynamic community of supporters for contemporary photography. The event brought together an eclectic mix of Munich-based friends, cultural enthusiasts, and representatives from various institutions, including our recent collaborators Daniel Veldhoen (Münchner Kammerspiele) and Various Others Director Christian Ganzenberg as well as the new chief curator of Haus der Kunst, Zue Tan. Against the vibrant backdrop of our artistic vision, the evening became a celebration of collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to nurturing emerging talent.
As public funding faces increasing challenges with significant budget cuts across municipal, state, and national levels, the role of private and corporate sponsorship in supporting cultural initiatives is more critical than ever. This shift underscores the necessity for a balanced mix of public and private funding to sustain independent artistic platforms like Der Greif. With this in mind, we conceptualized Der Greif Circle to not only ensure the future of our organization but to deepen our engagement with our community and global network.
At the event, Simon Lovermann, our Founder and Artistic Co-Director, presented Der Greif’s ambitious vision for Munich and beyond. The evening included compelling testimonials from artists in our community, who highlighted how Der Greif’s platform has been instrumental in their creative journeys. These stories underscored the profound impact our work has on fostering emerging voices in photography.
Der Greif Circle offers a tiered sponsorship model, inviting both private individuals and corporations to engage with us in meaningful ways. By joining this program, sponsors will play a vital role in a mission that celebrates diversity, inclusivity, and artistic excellence.
Benefits for members include access to exclusive events, subscriptions to our award-winning publication, visibility in our far-reaching, international community, and unique opportunities to connect with our vibrant network of artists and curators.
The success of the launch event was amplified by the generous support of our partners: Aqua Monaco, Kornell, and Limelight. Aqua Monaco, a Munich-based brand of non-alcoholic beverages, generously provided us with a choice of their many-flavoured lemonades that are among their most popular products. With Kornell, we have a special bond: their Lagrein wine is - by coincidence - called “Greif”, which created the perfect basis for a partnership and a playful addition to our drinks menu. On top of our two beverage sponsors, we’re always happy to work with Limelight, who provide us with sound and light design.
Our partners’ contributions helped create a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere, setting the tone for a future where collaboration thrives creativity.
With Der Greif Circle, we aim to create a model of support that not only sustains but elevates the possibilities for contemporary photographers to grow their careers. As we expand our reach to include sponsors from the US and other global markets, this initiative embodies our commitment to strengthening the ties between art and community. Through partnering with organizations such as Myriad USA and the Fondation de France we give donors the opportunity of tax-exempt donations to Der Greif no matter where they live: currently we can offer patrons the opportunity of tax-exempt donations from the US, France, the UK, Switzerland, and Germany.
