Two weeks, four magazine launches, a symposium, a lecture, a pop-up exhibition, a party, and so many great meetings, conversations, and good times with our community - thanks to everyone who participated! These events celebrated the release of Der Greif Issue 17, guest edited by Torbjørn Rødland, an issue that focuses on the dynamic relationship between AI, culture, and the medium of photography. While we wallow in the post-celebration blues, here are our favorite images from Der Greif Issue 17 events in Los Angeles, Munich, Paris, and Tokyo.
Los Angeles: In late October, we traveled to Los Angeles for the pre-launch of Der Greif Issue 17 with Torbjørn Rødland. The Webber Gallery hosted a book signing, also in collaboration with MACK, publisher of Rødland's latest book, "The Pregnant Virgin".
At Super BOOKS 5, which took place on November 2nd and 3rd at Haus der Kunst in Munich, Der Greif participated in a lecture entitled "Who Makes the Art? AI and Artists' Books". The discussion, which included our Artistic Co-Director Caroline von Courten and Lilian Landes of the Bavarian State Library, was moderated by Sabine Brantl of Haus der Kunst. The session explored the impact of artificial intelligence on the creation and perception of artists' books and addressed current influences on the artists' book scene.
In Paris, we celebrated the launch at Paris Photo at the Grand Palais. The event took place as part of the Paris Photo Media Program, with a launch event at the collective booth/kiosk in the North Media Lounge on November 7th. A few days later, on November 9, we hosted a collaborative event with Foam Magazine, Photoworks, and The Photographers' Gallery to explore the pressing question of the role of AI in contemporary visual culture. Together, we explored these themes in recent projects and provided a unique opportunity for shared dialogue with invited artists Stéphane Degoutin & Gwenola Wagon (invited by The Photographers' Gallery), Ben Millar Cole (selected for issue 17 by Torbjørn Rødland and presented by Der Greif), Hiền Hoàng (invited by Foam Magazine), Marcel Top (invited by Photoworks).
We kicked off our first event in Japan, at Zero Gallery, with a special pop-up exhibition at Zero, an artist-run initiative and gallery project by independent publisher zerofeedback. In addition to a gallery takeover of issues hot off the press, Zero offered an expanded look at the new issue through a tiny exhibition format that reproduced a selection of the magazine's spreads in a larger format.
We would like to thank all of our partners and community members for making this possible, Torbjørn Rødland for the valuable collaboration, and everyone who came out to meet us and continue to support us and our community. Until next time!
