Der Greif X Super BOOKS at Haus der Kunst

Article

In the heart of Munich’s cultural scene, the prestigious Haus der Kunst has once again set the stage for the vibrant and dynamic artist book scene with its fourth edition of Super BOOKS. On November 3rd and 4th, the event brought together over 50 exhibitors from Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Austria, England, Belgium, the Netherlands and South Korea, being a recurring platform for the display of autonomous works of art such as artist books and magazines.

In celebration of our 15th anniversary in 2023, we were set to engage in a unique two-day performative installation with interventions by six Bavarian artists, including Olaf Unverzart, Milen Till, Maximilian Prüfer, Sima Dehgani, Saskia Groneberg and Mara Pollak, who not only showcased their works but also juxtaposed them with pieces from Der Greif’s extensive archive along with submissions from one of our latest Open Calls themed Past & Present. Visitors were invited to autonomously curate and reorganize the visual content according to their preferences. By adding a local perspective to this format, the overarching goal was to foster a dialogue on the visual level, acknowledging the critical discourse surrounding images and their broader contexts.

The performances were also followed by individual book signings during specified times to highlight the current publications of our community members. We want to thank everyone who joined us for this special event.

The realization of this performative display during Super BOOKS 4 has been made possible through the financial support of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts.
