In my series Ancient Body - Modern World, I have learned that my body and photography can go places that my mind could never imagine. I explore the premise that human existence came from a series of random events, and genetically developed by mistake, by parting from an accidental succession of steps (or errors) evolving from e.g. algae or amino acids.*
These mistakes paved the way for our bodies to form and become, and because our bodies are corporeal, we can relate to the physical world we live in. In a world quickly becoming virtual - I wish to celebrate and acknowledge physicality. Our body is the last bastion of existential being.
*The Oparin-Haldane hypothesis suggests that life arose gradually from inorganic molecules, with “building blocks” like amino acids forming first and then combining to make complex polymers.
*According to a study led by researchers Jochen Brocks and Amber Jarrett, the secret of the origin of life on Earth lies in an expansion of algae that occurred 650 million years ago.
