    The masks in the photographic project Animas represent the link in a disturbing relationship between the animal and the divinity. Masking means appearing in the form of another entity. In all the villages, each Anima has its own history and meaning, with a mystical, spiritual, and sacred value, for cathartic and liberating purposes.

    From an early age, children choose their own mask, which they keep for the rest of their lives. The animal-god metamorphosis thus stems from an impulse that takes the form of the mask and is transformed into a ritual act. The rite is a dream in time, masking is a destiny.

    Andrea Graziosi

    Andrea Graziosi is an Italian photographer based in Marseille. He grew up in a small village, a religious destination for many pilgrims. His research focuses on the correlations between human beings and other forms of life. Evoking and working on ontological notions linked to the concepts of animal becoming, parallel dimensions, fracture and strangeness, he aims to produce photographic works in which the role of the printed object is decisive. In 2015, he published his first book, Nunc Stans, with André Frère Ed. He is currently working on publishing Animas project.
