During the last few weeks, thanks to the “26th Spring Arts Grant L’Escala” awarded to me and my colleague Salvi Danés, we have been working on a new collaborative project called Deriva (“Drift”). The central themes of the project are fishermen's huts and everything that surrounds traditional fishing, a world on the verge of extinction.
The title Deriva refers on the one hand to the loss of this ancient profession and a way of life that is disappearing, and on the other hand, it refers to our way of tackling this project, getting lost in the environment of L’Escala, letting ourselves be carried away by intuition and using disorientation as a tool for creation. The project is divided into two main parts, a photographic series of a more experimental nature and a short film that mixes our own experience with the testimony of a world in danger of extinction. The residency will materialize with an exhibition in 2025.
