A friend invited me to her church, the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle (CPT), a church and campground in Ashland, Va. It was such a new, exciting, and wonderful moment for me. They welcomed me and I was amongst people of different backgrounds and ethnicities. Ruth Ward Heflin, considered by many to be a matriarch of the Pentecostal faith was the leader then.
She was known for her revival meetings marked by gold dust. Unfortunately, she passed away from cancer. She refused chemo and treatment because she said the Lord told her to refuse.
Although I was only there for 2 days, it changed my life forever. Often we look at others with skepticism and we forget to live for the moment, the moment I felt with them was of joy, acceptance, and love for all. May she rest in peace.
