Living Under Siege (Pt. 1)

Artist Blog by Mouneb Taim

The Eastern Ghouta region, near the Syrian capital Damascus, endured relentless bombardment and siege for over five years. Attacks, both aerial and ground assaults, persisted until the situation culminated in the forced displacement of all residents. This photo captures a scene in the city of Douma, just a few kilometers from the heart of Damascus, depicting a burned car in the foreground and, behind it, the Cultural Center in flames.

The Cultural Center held immense significance for the city's inhabitants, serving as a venue for concerts, dances, and various cultural events that held great importance for the community. The destruction of this place resulted in the loss of more than 380 lives among the local population.
