About a year ago, I began a new project that originated with a major life change, which was having our baby. She is now one, and since just before she was born, I began making pictures which meant to primarily quell or reveal the anxieties I have about becoming, and now being, a parent. The focus in the series is explicitly not her, though she exists around the periphery, but it is more about me and our collective environment, revealing stress, joy, wonder and hopefulness. As I’ve photographed, or collected images, I’ve learned to release control, much like being a parent.
Throughout the past year, I’ve often fixated on her hands. So little and uncoordinated, yet so confident. So soft and wandering, and quickly growing. And many photographs repeat that softness and vulnerability, hope and wonder.
