Topiary, derived from the latin word topiarius, a creator of different areas through ornamental landscapes. A horticultural practice that refers towards a dialogue with a living sculpture formed by time, growth and small interventions that hold them in defined shapes.
This notion of forming and being formed (wi)th(rough), a constant dialog of the material presence, is something that corresponds with Scott Van Kampen Wieling and his practice.
A process of collection, arranging and shaping to start material dialogues and hold their time within. Held by a round base, a soft bend towards the left, followed by a swirled moving action high up ending their branches in search for light.
Scott Van Kampen Wieling runs a material based practice in The Hague, the Netherlands. In his practice Scott researches the growth of plants and different materials by looking to their defined shapes, which takes him and the beholder on a fragile poetic walk created by their assembled presence, to hold and capture a still moment in time.
