Fotografische Begegnungen (Photographic Encounters) - Exhibition & Talk with Diandra Donecker, Dr. Caroline von Courten and Dr. Monika Bayer-Wermuth

We would like to invite you ahead of our online photography auction in collaboration with Grisebach Auction House for a look at the available works and a talk with Diandra Donecker, Co-Director & Co-Partner at Grisebach (with Daniel von Schacky), Dr. Caroline von Courten, Artistic Co-Director at Der Greif, and Dr. Monika Bayer-Wermuth, Chief Curator at the Museum Brandhorst. The speakers will be discussing the implications of pairing 15 contemporary works together with 15 partly historical photographs for the auction as shown at Grisebach in Munich. This encounter between well-known and as of yet unknown works - where in some cases a whole century lies between their creation - points to themes and genres that defy this gap in time through their timelessness. These works also raise questions about value: what makes an image so valuable - both financially and emotionally? Ultimately, do we collect images that trigger something in us, or do we collect the names of the protagonists behind them?
