Honestly, I live in a restless, hybrid working strategy where many things fascinate me at once. Composing visual material on my hard drive feels like a performance or a kind of choreography. Portraits combined with my fascination for dance, I first developed from my research images, then from a real story, a collective dance-performance project that initially set aside my image research but ultimately resulted in a coherent work.
YANOUSSA. In the contemporary dance performance, the three chapters “Home, Escape, and Exile” merge seamlessly. The choreography (Francisco Sanchez-Martinez) is based on the personal story of Yanoussa from Guinea. Yanoussa was kidnapped at the age of 11 and fled across West Africa and the Mediterranean to Europe. The fracture as an identity conflict is evident in the dance (Tyresse Bracy) as well as in the specially composed music (Nicolas Engel).
